In February 2018 we celebrated 20 years since we opened in Ballyhackamore as Aldens.
Described at the time at an oasis in the gastronomic desert of East Belfast, with thanks to the broadening food scene in Belfast and across Northern Ireland, and a growing loyal customer we enjoyed a successful 20 years in business as Aldens Restaurant before we revamped as Neill’s Hill in 2012.
We felt this needed celebrating, the idea came about that we should host an evening of Aldens. We wanted to create the Aldens experience once enjoyed by many through our food, wine, staff and furnishings.
We started off with a 5 course menu written by Cath Gradwell, Executive Chef of the Skandia group, Aldens first Head Chef. Jonathan then chose wines to match the menu. Next we chose our team, most of whom still work in the restaurant today and we invited some past Aldens hosts to join the team for one more night.
We decorated the tables with linen and brought back our Aldens uniforms, pressed white shirts and red ties. We chose a music playlist with all our favourite songs from that era. We were ready!
The evening started with a Champagne reception, Jonathan and Cath made speeches and it was time to dine.
The 5 course menu consisted of signature Aldens dishes with a modern twist such as Rabbit Terrine with Sauternes Jelly and Buttermilk Pannacotta with Champagne Rhubarb.
After a successful night and much interest we decided to hold another evening of Aldens in the April.
We hope to have another Aldens Night later on in the year when our Tapas Season finished. If you would be interested in being on the guest list please use the contact form to leave us your contact details.
See below for Menus and Photos from both nights.
